Wakanow Group, Africa’s leading travel technology company, has announced the acquisition of NairaBox, a Nigerian digital entertainment and lifestyle platform, in a strategic move aimed at expanding its service offerings beyond the travel sector.
The acquisition, announced in Lagos on Tuesday, is part of Wakanow’s long-term vision to integrate travel, entertainment, and lifestyle into a seamless digital ecosystem. Through the deal, Wakanow will leverage NairaBox’s strong presence in the entertainment and events space to provide customers with richer and more diversified experiences.
Speaking on the development, Group CEO of Wakanow, Mr. Bayo Adedeji, described the acquisition as a strategic step towards building a “travel and lifestyle super app” that caters to modern consumers’ evolving preferences.
“Our mission has always been to simplify travel and enhance life experiences. By acquiring NairaBox, we are creating a one-stop platform that brings travel, entertainment, and lifestyle together in a way that has never been done before,” he stated.
Under the new structure, Tobi Andero has been appointed Head of Business for NairaBox, where he will oversee the integration process and drive expansion plans across markets.
NairaBox CEO, Mr. Ugochukwu Jay Chikezie, welcomed the acquisition, expressing optimism that the partnership will help scale the company’s impact in Nigeria’s growing entertainment industry.
“We are excited to join the Wakanow family. This acquisition will enable us to expand our reach and deliver even more value to customers who seek unique entertainment and lifestyle experiences,” Chikezie said.
Wakanow affirmed that NairaBox will maintain its digital-first and innovative brand culture while benefiting from Wakanow’s vast customer base and technological infrastructure.
The acquisition further strengthens Wakanow’s expanding portfolio, which already includes brands such as Wakanow.com, Kalabash54.com, Roomde.com, Onburd.com, Pointview Travels, and Trip Merchant.
Industry analysts view the deal as a move to diversify Wakanow’s revenue streams and tap into the rapidly growing intersection of travel and entertainment in Africa. By combining ticketing, travel booking, and event experiences on one platform, Wakanow aims to position itself as a holistic lifestyle brand.
