Advisory services
- The Nigerian Government Treasury Bills (NTBs) are short-term debt obligations backed by the FGN with a maturity not more than one year.
- Commercial Papers (CPs) are issued by corporate organisations to finance short-term obligations of not more than 270 days and are usually issued at a discount to face value.
- Medium-Term Notes (MTN) – an asset holding period or investment horizon that is intermediate in nature.
- Certificates of Deposit (CD) – a certificate usually issued by a commercial bank to a person depositing money for a specified length of time at a specified rate of interest.
- Convertible Bonds – a bond that can be converted into a pre-determined amount of the company’s equity at certain times during its life.

- Forward Contract: This is a derivative contract in which the terms are very similar to a cash-and-carry agreement, except that delivery and transfer of ownership of the underlying asset is in future
- Future Contract: This is a contract under which one party agrees to deliver to another party on a specified date (the “maturity date”) a specified asset at a price (the “strike price”) agreed at the time of the contract and payable on the maturity date.
- A Swap: This is a derivative in which two counterparties exchange cash flows of one party’s financial instrument for those of the other party’s financial instrument.
- An Option: This is a contract which gives the buyer (the owner) the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell an underlying asset or instrument at a specified strike price on or before a specified date.

Services
a) Spot Purchase:
Where a customer has trade obligations to settle in a foreign currency, this is most likely the case where the customer is an importer and he requires foreign exchange to pay his own customer (the exporter) in another country and in another currency.
b) Spot Sale:
A customer may also be in possession of foreign exchange and may wish to sell it to the bank in return for Naira.
c) Foreign Exchange Forward:
A forward rate is a rate agreed upon by two counter parties to be used to convert one currency into another at a determined future date.
d) Currency Swaps:
This is a foreign exchange agreement between two parties to exchange the principal and/or interest of an asset or liability in one currency for equivalent amounts in another currency at a pre-determined time.
e) Other Currencies:
A customer may buy or sell other currencies like GBP, Euro against the USD without converting to Naira.
The Nigerian FX market consists of two dealing segments:
- Over The Counter (OTC) Dealing: The critical market with many suppliers and market makers. Major participants include:
